Objective: To effectively convey an object's purpose and functionality through a combination of static imagery and motion graphics, ultimately creating a clear and engaging visual narrative.
Stage One: Drawing Experimentation
In stage one, I was tasked to explore the multiple ways of designing an object to represent its functionality and personality.
Research
After researching objects, I challenged myself by selecting a Hoptimist bobblehead to visually represent. This choice pushed my technical drawing skills, as I had to find creative ways to depict an object that is usually best understood through movement.
2D Sketching
I developed different 2D sketches of my bobblehead to determine which pose would best convey the essence and bubbly mood of the bobblehead.
Representation Experimentation
Designing the bobblehead in various styles helped me gain perspective on the best way to convey the product effectively.
Stage One Final
The graphic translation below captured the craftsmanship and spirit of the bobblehead.
Stage Two: Icon Application
In the icon application, I aimed to convey the "bobble" in the bobblehead as well as Hoptimistic's values through a clean, versatile design that works seamlessly across different contexts, sizes, color variations, and with minimal type.
Stage Two Research/Sketching
I experimented with different ways to convey movement to the viewer, and how the composition of the bobblehead would intertwine with movement marks.
Additionally, I focused on embodying Hoptimists' motto, "Make every day a little more joyful" into the icon.
Digital Iterations
Digitally, I tried several iterations, ultimately incorporating a hand icon and movement curves to push the narrative of the item’s functionality.

Stage Three: Motion Graphic Application
In fall 2024, I revisited my icon and developed a motion graphic to demonstrate the bobblehead’s movement in a video format.
